Place a neutral calibration card flat against the wall, keep glare off the surface, and take one photo that includes both the wall and the card.

How to get a better match

  1. Use indirect daylight or even room lighting. Turn off colored accent lights.
  2. Place the calibration card flat against the wall in the same light.
  3. Hold the phone straight toward the wall, about 2–4 feet away.
  4. Tap the wall, then the white, gray, and black card patches.
  5. Repeat the scan twice. Similar results mean the capture is more trustworthy.

A commercial photographer’s gray card will be more accurate than a home printer.
